My understanding of the power of competition has been shaped by a lifetime of diverse experiences, rigorous education, and personal challenges that forged my perspective on what it takes to thrive.
Starting as a diamond manufacturer in Antwerp, Belgium, and rising to become the CEO of a leading global diamond company, I learned to see opportunities where others saw threats. In a fiercely competitive industry, I discovered that success requires not just skill but the ability to adapt, innovate, and find strength in differentiation.
This professional journey intertwined with my personal life. As an ordained rabbi, my commitment to ethics and morals isn’t theoretical—it’s a principle I live daily. My passion for continuous learning drives me to dedicate hours every day to expanding my knowledge.
A pivotal influence on my understanding of competition has been my 50-year practice as a 4th dan black-belt karateka. Karate taught me that competition is not just about defeating others—it’s about mastering oneself, finding inner strength, and leveraging the power of strategy and discipline.
My academic achievements have further deepened my perspective. An MBA, a Ph.D. in marketing and luxury, and post-doctoral research on leadership, corporate governance, CSR, and ethics have given me a solid foundation to understand the interplay between competition, strategy, and values. My mentorship under Prof. Leslie de Chernatony enriched my grasp of brand strategy, while my NLP Master Practitioner certification honed my ability to communicate and influence effectively.
Through these experiences, I’ve come to see competition not as a threat but as a catalyst for growth—a force that drives innovation, refines character, and reveals untapped potential.
